Seasonal Marketing & Communications Intern

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
FIND Outdoors, a non-profit organization, is looking for a highly motivated, creative, and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Marketing & Communications Intern across all FIND sites in beautiful Western North Carolina, North Georgia & Kentucky. The ideal candidate is a team player who is eager to learn, grow professional skills, and gain hands-on, real-world experience in marketing, communications, and public land storytelling.

This internship is designed as a learning opportunity for individuals interested in marketing, digital media, nonprofit communications, outdoor recreation promotion, or public land engagement. The Marketing & Communications Intern will gain practical experience working alongside the Communications & Marketing Director while contributing to meaningful projects that directly impact visitor experience and organizational outreach.

The intern will support a variety of projects including social media content creation, signage audits, website updates, site branding improvements, and marketing campaigns that encourage visitation and strengthen communication across FIND-managed sites. This role provides the opportunity to learn how a nonprofit communicates across multiple public land locations while developing professional skills in content creation, brand consistency, project coordination, and digital strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in creating and scheduling content for FIND Outdoors social media platforms, including photos, short-form video, captions, and event promotion.
  • Support marketing strategies and promotional efforts for events, programs, and seasonal campaigns across multiple FIND sites.
  • Conduct signage audits at FIND-managed locations to evaluate effectiveness, clarity, and alignment with brand standards and visitor communication goals.
  • Collaborate with FIND staff and site managers to gather stories, updates, and content opportunities from the field.
  • Support onboarding of new or updated FIND sites by assisting with branding refreshes, signage updates, and visitor-facing communication materials.
  • Assist with website updates and improvements that enhance visitor experience, accessibility, and communication across sites.
  • Collect and organize photo and video assets, developing skills in storytelling and visual content creation.
  • Support development of email communications, newsletters, and digital outreach campaigns.
  • Apply brand standards across printed and digital materials to ensure consistency in messaging and design.
  • Assist the Communications & Marketing Director with special projects, campaigns, and organizational initiatives.
  • Provide support for visitor engagement materials and public-facing communications, including tabling and outreach opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • Interest in developing skills in marketing, communications, and digital media.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Creative mindset with an interest in storytelling, photography, video, or design.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when needed.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for events or content capture.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A combination of academic studies and/or practical experience in marketing, communications, public relations, digital media, or a related field.
  • Interest or experience in social media management, content creation, or branding.
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members & work independently when required. 
  • A passion for outdoor recreation, public lands, or nonprofit work is a plus.

INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE*: 
Duration: Flexible, 12 weeks: Spring - Summer 2026
Work Schedule: 20-24 hours/weekly, with some evening shifts during special events. 
Stipend: A stipend will be provided to support living expenses during the internship. 
*May adjust for college intern credit requirements
