FIND has an exciting opportunity for a Gladie Visitor Center Manager. This role will will serve as the liaison between forest users, the Forest Service and FIND Outdoors and will strive to excel in this regard and must have the requisite skills to function in this position. The role will focus on providing exceptional information, experiences and management of a site that sees over 40,000 visitors each year and is the gateway to thousands of acres of trails and recreational opportunities in the Red River Gorge on the Cumberland District. Experiences at the site range from a retail shop and information services to exhibit space and educational programming. The candidate should have a working knowledge of Forest Service management practices on public lands and have intimate knowledge of the Cumberland District of the DBNF, including trails and trail status and the numerous activities available. The candidate will possess the ability to effectively manage numerous daily operations, staff and/or volunteers at the site in high-energy situations and be able to communicate needs effectively. Lastly, the candidate must work as part of a team with HQ staff and all FIND sites as well as serve FIND Outdoors, its brand and its visitors with respect, dignity and inclusivity at all times.
Responsibilities
1. Management, training and supervision of staff and/or volunteers to meet the high standards of FIND Outdoors and the US Forest Service.
2. Sales outlet operations in coordination with Retail Director and support staff.
3. Provide exceptional experiences for the public such as National Forest information, retail opportunities, well-designed exhibits and programming.
4. Maintain excellent communication and customer service skills at all times.
5. Coordinate with US Forest Service to provide maintenance repairs, routine inspections, bathroom cleaning and trash removal.
6. Maintain and coordinate all budgets with COO and CFO.
7. Monitor staff interactions with the public to ensure quality of service at all times.
8. Work with Education team to provide programs, education materials, and signage that reflect the FIND Outdoors brand and mission.
9. Conduct yearly training sessions with staff.
10. Participate in regular meetings with FIND staff and US Forest Service representatives.
11. Accurate and timely record keeping and reporting for FIND and Forest Service documents, policies and operating plans.
12. Live within a 50 mile radius of the Visitor Center. There is an apartment in the basement of the Visitor Center that the candidate can reside in if they would rather.
Qualifications
1. At least three years’ experience in managing multiple personnel in a fast-paced setting.
2. Proven record of managerial experience with an emphasis in customer service skills.
3. Experience in working with previous nonprofits is preferred.
4. Graduation from a four-year college in business, outdoor recreation, nonprofit management, biology or combination of classes and courses in these subjects is preferred.
5. Ability to use LightSpeed Point of Sale software
6. Clean driving record
7. Ability to work effectively both on an independent basis and as part of a team.
8. General knowledge of accounting procedures, record keeping principles and administration of budgets.
9. Ability to communicate with the Forest Service about maintenance needs, repairs, exhibits and related information.
10. Must have distinct knowledge (or willingness to learn) of the Red River Gore, its trail system, closures, recreational opportunities and the history of the National Forest.
11. Ability to meet and greet the public in person and via Zoom and telephone to provide information regarding services, opportunities and programming.
12. Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously within a strict budget and timeframe.
13. Ability to operate basic lawn equipment including weed trimmers, push mowers, leaf blowers, and pressure washers.
14. Ability to relocate seasonally to the apartment in the basement of the Visitor Center, unless otherwise living within a 50 mile radius.

FIND Outdoors serves over 800,000 visitors each year with over 150 educational and recreational programs, special events, and tours, and manages 15 recreation, education, and camping facilities in North Carolina, and Georgia. In addition, FIND offers our visitors forest- related gifts, education resources, and provides partnership opportunities for the health of our forests and the safety of our forest users on public and private lands.
Scope of Work and Expectations for Gladie Manager
I. In regards to work schedule, the Manager will:
- Work under the direction of the VP of Operations
- Work a 40-hour work week including some weekends, holidays and evenings.
- Work rotating hours and days to coincide with staff, seasons and visitation.
- Inform the VP of Operations of any deviation to the above schedule.
- Submit a request to the VP of Operations one month in advance for any time off exceeding one week.
- Inform HQ team of time off and provide out of office email.
- Work weekends, evenings and holidays and travel as needed.
II. In regards to duties and accomplishments, the Manager will:
- Maintain a facility schedule that coincides with FIND and Forest Service policy.
- Work closely with the VP of Operations and HQ staff to accomplish any communication needs in a timely manner.
- Develop yearly events with education team to ensure all staffing needs are met.
- Keep a good working relationship with Forest Service personnel.
- Act as liaison between Forest Service staff and FIND Outdoors.
- Ensure that all plans for the site are reviewed and implemented.
- Ensure the site is clean and meet all COVID-19 safety requirements.
III. In regards to communicating with staff and the public, the will:
- Present themselves and FIND Outdoors in a respectable manner at all times.
- Meet with the VP of Operations and HQ staff regularly for updates.
- Participate in FIND Communications Committee.
- Treat every coworker and visitor to FIND Outdoors locations with dignity and equality at all times.
- Bring any problems, complaints or concerns to the VP of Operations immediately for resolution.
- Lift up our coworkers, remain positive while at the site and help out those in need at other FIND offices and HQ.
