About the Opportunity:

Education Volunteer
FIND has an exciting opportunity for education volunteers with a 51-year-old non-profit based out of Pisgah Forest, NC. FIND Outdoors promotes educational, recreational, and interpretive programs at five visitor centers and nine campgrounds in North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Indiana. FIND Outdoors serves approximately 850,000 visitors each year with over 150 educational and interpretive programs. The education volunteer will work collaboratively with the education director, education team, site managers, and hosts to support the educational mission at FIND Outdoors.  This role will focus on delivering informal education and interpretation programs to visitors and families throughout the year. Volunteers must have the requisite skills to function in this role and will be an ambassador to FIND Outdoors.

Providing educational opportunities at all of those sites is a large task. FIND Outdoors is searching for talented nature enthusiasts who would like to share their passion and expertise with the public. Are you a birder, wildflower enthusiast, educator, biologist, or general outdoor enthusiast? Do you believe that education is the greatest tool for fostering new stewards on our public lands? Would you be willing to assist or lead an education experience on a FIND Outdoors managed site? If so, then we may have just the opportunity for you.

RESPONSIBLITIES:
 
  • Facilitate education and interpretation programs and activities in an indoor and outdoor setting to participants of all ages.  
  • Assist in the creation, planning and implementation of educational and interpretive programing.
  • Assist in planning and implementing special events at FIND Outdoors campgrounds and visitor centers.
  • Assist with staffing outreach booths at appropriate events and expos. 
  • Provides general customer service and information to visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Self-motivated.
  • Patient and kind.
  • Knowledge in an outdoor or educational field.
  • Adaptable.
  • Good verbal, and written communication.
  • Reasonable fitness abilities to participate in programs.
  • Able to be outdoors in differing weather conditions.
