FIND Outdoors serves over 800,000 visitors each year with over 150 educational and recreational programs, special events, and tours, and manages 15 recreation, education, and camping facilities in North Carolina, Kentucky and Georgia. In addition, FIND offers our visitors forest-related gifts, education resources, programs and activities, along with providing partnership opportunities for the health of our forests and the safety of our forest users on public and private lands.

About the Opportunity:

Seasonal Educator
Cradle of Forestry Pisgah Forest, NC
This role will focus on providing exceptional visitor experiences through managing various groups for FIND Outdoors and must have the requisite skills to function in this position including a college degree in environmental education or similar major. This position will be held to a high standard for quality programming, facilitating student engagement, employee as well as community relations and will be an ambassador of FIND. This position reports to the North Carolina Education Manager.

RESPONSIBLITIES:
  1. Facilitate education and interpretation programs/activities in an indoor and outdoor setting for participants of all ages and varying group size.
  2. Lead groups on paved and natural trails serving as educator and guide to observing the surrounding forest and its dynamics while managing student behavior and attaining academic goals.
  3. Develop and implement lesson plans.
  4. Maintain interactive exhibits, conduct data collection and clean displays in all program areas.
  5. Assist in planning and implementing special events and/or activities at the Cradle.
  6. Consistent and quality communication with Education Manager regarding all issues.
  7. Assist in preparing for school groups including set up and breakdown after programming is completed.
  8. Other related duties as assigned including, but not limited to, staffing outreach booths, information tables and some weekend events.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
  1. Can work successfully as part of a team as well as assume and execute responsibilities independently.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and experience of working objectives in the field of natural history, outdoor recreation, forest ecology, outdoor education, etc.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as dynamic critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to stay organized and assist with implementation of several projects within a specific time frame.
  5. Ability to walk up to four miles a day and lift twenty pounds
  6. Interact in a professional manner with the public and convey a positive image for FIND Outdoors.
